The only thing you need to control is yourself, your reactions, and your actions to change. Face it, life happens. Whatever that means....What the does mean is that there are things that are going to come up that are out of your control, things out of the ordinary, things that don’t fit the plan.
Things change, things evolve, things shift from one thing to another. This journey is about growing into your own skin. Putting barriers and limits on others is not part of that.
But as any of us can plainly see, the rest of the world doesn’t seem to get this point. You will, I guarantee, if you search hard enough, find people that are on the same path as you. These are the people you need; these are people that will help you back up when you’re down. The more you try to control things outside of yourself, the more you lose yourself in those things.
I understand that we all want to be famous for something, we all want to be important. But at what cost? For some, the price is never too high. Some will sacrifice their friends and family for fame. Some think that joy comes from the recognition other people give you.
“To hell with that,” I say. It is impossible to feel complete and satisfied with an obsession like that. Some people get tattoos because they think it makes them cool, others play music they think other people want to hear, and some are just assholes that think the worse they treat people the higher up they can get. While it is true, that one must have steel reserves to get where one wants to go, there is a difference between earning it and, in essence, “stealing” it. For in the latter, it will be short lived and fleeting. You will be constantly consumed with the need for more, more money, more power, more sex, and more fame.
Albert Einstein said, "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." And this is absolutely true when you think about why our current culture acts the way it does. It’s like the more of a fraud, sham, and imitation you are, the better off you “are”. When, in fact, the worse off you become. Slowly but surely, you start to decay, start to fall apart, from the inside out.
But for some odd reason you are still insisted to fake it. “Oh no, there’s no problem here,” you say. Until, one day, if you’re lucky and its not too late, you wake up from this fantasy life you’ve been living and realize, like a sharp blow to the chest, that a large chunk of your life has been without meaning or value.
What have you got to show for it? Have you grown into something that makes you proud? Have you challenged yourself to break past your own boundaries? Did you strive to be creative yet determined in living your life in the greatest way possible? For most, the answer is, and sadly will always, be no. Are you going to be like most people?
